We are in need of volunteers to assist with our online book sales. Visit 2720 Riverside Drive, Suite 129 if you would like to get involved.
Supporting the Friends is Just Like Supporting the Library
There are three ways you can support the Friends of the Library. You may donate your gently used books for our annual Old Book Sale, you may honor a friend or family member through our Memorial Book Program, or you may make a one time donation here.
Donate Your Gently Used Books
We accept donations on Tuesdays and Thursdays
Why not clean out your bookshelves to make room for new books, or better yet, for the books you buy at the Old Book Sale? It’s a recycling program that is fun! You can drop off your books at our new location, in the Riverstreet Crossing Complex (2720 Riverside Drive, Suite 129, Macon). We accept donations on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 9am – 1pm.
If you are wondering what makes a book gently used, it is a book that is in good enough condition for someone else to read. Most of our shoppers avoid books that are water damaged, moldy or falling apart. The only exception is a book that is very old, but even those items should have all the pages intact. We request that you avoid donating magazines as they are not sold at the Book Sale.
To donate books for the Old Book Sale, bring them to the desk of the Washington Memorial Library or any of the Bibb County library branches. Be sure to mark your bags or boxes “Friends” or “Book Sale” so we will be sure to get them. If you have a lot of books to donate, you can bring them to the service entrance on the College St. side of the Washington Memorial Library, where maintenance staff can unload your vehicle. The Friends are available to help unload books on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at the Washington Memorial Library at the corner of Washington and College Streets.
Memorial Book Program
The Friends of the Macon-Bibb County Libraries Memorial Books Program gives you the opportunity to remember and honor friends and family. Please send donations in honor of, or in memory of, your friends and loved ones. A bookplate will be placed inside a book’s cover giving the name of the person being remembered, along with the name of the donor. When the book becomes old and it is time to remove it from the collection, a new bookplate will be prepared with the same name(s) and placed inside a new book. There is a $20.00 minimum for memorial books.
To donate to the Friends through the Memorial Book Program, please download, print and return our form. You may download it here.
